🛠️ Project Overview

This bat project showcases how well waterslide decals adhere to curved wood surfaces when applied with care. John’s idea was to replicate a classic Phillies logo and affix it to a game-style bat as a keepsake—one that would later be signed during the Phillies Phanfest held at Veterans Stadium.

Here’s what made it successful:

  • Decal Design: A logo-style graphic printed on clear waterslide decal paper using a standard inkjet printer
  • Surface: Smooth, lacquered wood—ideal for decal adhesion when sealed properly
  • Event Finish: John brought the completed bat to the Phillies Phanfest, where players signed the finished piece

📸 Behind the Photo

As John notes, the image doesn’t quite capture the full quality of the decal because of the bat’s rounded surface—but the results in person were excellent. The subtle transparency of the waterslide film allowed the wood grain to show through the logo, creating a vintage look.

“The decal paper worked great. I used it for the first time to make a logo-type decal for the Phillies last year at the Vet and had the bat autographed at the Phillies Phanfest.”

🎯 Why This Project Works

  • ✔️ Custom logo on a unique medium (sports gear)
  • ✔️ Creative use of clear waterslide paper for a pro-grade finish
  • ✔️ Combines DIY crafting with collectible memorabilia
  • ✔️ Washable and sealable for long-term preservation

This is a great example of how waterslide decals go beyond mugs and models—you can apply them to wood, sports gear, musical instruments, and more for high-impact, personalized gifts or keepsakes.
